Fitting Instructions
-
Select the Correct Size
- Choose the appropriate model based on waist circumference.
- Measure the sternal rod length from the top of the pubic crest to the lower edge of the sternoclavicular joints.
-
Adjust the Brace
- Loosen the screws on the base plate to modify the length.
- Fully extend the sternal pad and adjust the brace so the waistband sits above the iliac crest.
- Adjust the symphysis and sternal rods to suit the patient's body structure.
- Secure the dorsal pad and fit the waistband.
-
Shape the Brace for a Custom Fit
- The sternal rod and lateral extensions can be shaped by hand by bending them over a knee or chair back.
-
Do not bend the sternal rod within the range of motion of the sternal pad.
- If needed, use round bending irons for precise adjustments.
- Before bending, remove the sternal pad for safety.
-
Secure the Sternal Pad
- Slide the sleeve nut into position and fasten with screws.
- Secure the screws with Loctite to prevent loosening.
-
Verify Pad Placement
- The sternal pad’s upper edge should align with the lower edge of the sternoclavicular joints in hyperextended position.
- The symphysis pad’s lower edge should be level with the pelvic crest.
- Bend the lower part of the symphysis pad outward for comfort.
- Ensure all screws are securely tightened.
-
Final Adjustments & Safety Check
- Check the brace function the day after fitting and adjust if necessary.
Using the Ratchet Fastener System
-
Opening & Closing:
- Do not open the fastener covers beyond 180°.
- Fold the covers back and thread the belt through the fasteners until the belt tips are visible at the front.
-
Tighten the belt by opening and closing the fastener covers, adjusting until the desired hyperextension is achieved.
-
Both fastener covers must be closed to secure the brace.
- Trim excess belt length with scissors if needed.
-
Removing the Brace:
- Open one fastener cover completely using the thumb.
-
Pull the belt out for easy removal.
Caution & Safety Guidelines
-
Do not force the fastener closed or tighten beyond the pain threshold.
- Ensure normal breathing is possible at all times while wearing the brace.
